The Uyl van Hoogland

Right in the center of Leiden, next to the famous Hooglandse Church, you will find the Uyl van Hoogland. Over the past forty years, this café has grown into one of the most famous pubs in Leiden. In the evening it is almost always pleasantly busy. The public is of all ages and in addition to normal pilsner, they also have numerous specialty beers, on tap or bottle.

Stadsbrouwhuis

On the Aalmarkt, in line with the Nieuwe Rijn, you will find the Stadsbrouwhuis. If you like specialty beer this is the ideal place to have a beer. Not only do they make different types of beers themselves, but they also have about 30 taps. In addition, they serve various snacks and can always provide you with the right advice. Tip! Take the tasting of specialty beers. This way you can taste different styles from different breweries.

L'esperance

Next to us, 2 doors down, is café L'esperance; one of Leiden's oldest cafes where you have been welcome since 1814. A café rich in traditions and history. Here you can enjoy a nice cold beer and a snack. Much of the lunch and drinks menu is homemade.

The Japan Museum Sieboldhuis has the exhibition 'Neko. The cat in Japanese art '. Traditional and contemporary Japanese prints, rare drawings, objects, beautiful scroll paintings and contemporary photographs show the role of the cat in Japanese art through the ages. Big and small lovers of cats and Japanese art should not miss this exhibition!

'Pilgrims to America - and the Limits of Freedom' explores the limits of freedom. The exhibition shows the remarkable journey of the Pilgrims at the beginning of the seventeenth century. From the England they came from, via the city of Leiden, where they spent eleven years in voluntary exile, to the world of the Native Americans they colonized.
